Plastic bearing cages can rather easily be damaged due to hard particles which most likely are found in the lubricant of the rolling bearing. These hard particles can be squeezed between the rolling elements or balls and the relatively soft plastic cage walls causing damages or defects. …To avoid this drawback the plastic-cage at least on its contact-surfaces (2) with the rolling elements are covered with a hard layer which preferably is applied by ionsputtering of chromiumnitride (Cr2N3).
