<p>An ethylene-propylene-diene rubber which can endure the use under harsh conditions requiring dynamic and mechanical durability wherein it has been believed that only a natural rubber or a blend therewith is durable and which can impart excellent heat resistance, weather resistance and dynamic fatigue resistance. This rubber is characterized by containing sulfur dispersed therein. A preferred form of the ethylene-propylene-diene rubber comprises 90 to 40 % by weight of a high molecular weight ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (A) having an ethylene content of 60 to 82 mol.%, a limiting viscosity number [θ] of 3.0 to 5.0 dl/g as measured at 135 °C in decalin and an iodine value of 8 to 35; and 10 to 60 % by weight of a low molecular weight ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (B) having an ethylene content of 60 to 82 mol.%, a limiting viscosity number [θ] of 0.15 to 0.8 dl/g as measured at 135 °C in decalin and an iodine value of 8 to 35, the Mooney viscosity, ML1+4 (100 °C), of which is in the range of 60 to 120, and wherein sulfur is dispersed. The vulcanized rubber is suited for use in various fields, such as tire, automobile parts, general engineering parts and civil engineering building materials, especially in the fields where dynamic fatigue resistance is demanded, e.g., a muffler hanger, a belt, a rubber vibration insulator, an engine mount, a tread of a pneumatic tire, a side wall of a pneumatic tire and a white side wall.</p> |
