The invention relates to a sanitary container made of an impervious material which can be incinerated and consisting of a reservoir 10 which is hermetically closed by a lid 20, the container being intended for the collection of medical and paramedical waste. The lid 20 is reversible, making use of the two opposite faces 20a and 20b of the latter. One 20a of the two opposite faces of the abovementioned lid 20 is concave so that, when the said sanitary container is closed for the collection of recoverable objects, this concave face 20a of the said lid 20 forms, under the closure plane 21 and in the abovementioned reservoir 10, a sort of basket. The other 20b of the two opposite faces of the abovementioned lid 20, opposite the concave face 20a, is itself convex, so that when the said sanitary container is closed for the collection of non-recoverable objects and residues, this convex face 20b of the said lid 20 forms, above the closure plane 21 and over the abovementioned reservoir 10, a sort of additional box.
