Electronic control device for fork lift vehicle - uses detection of IR beam reflected by obstacle to initiate braking

The electronic control device allows the vehicle to be moved along an aisle between racks, with an IR beam directed along the aisle, allowing the vehicle to be brought to a standstill. All obstacles within the aisle are detected by using a series of IRT transmitters (5) across the vehicle width at the vehicle front end, providing combined IR light cones covering a distance in-front of the vehicle (4) which corresp. to the vehicle braking path. The vehicle brakes are activated automatically when a reflected IR signal is received. ADVANTAGE - Protects against collision.
