The invention concerns an elongate element 1, with cross section basically wedge-shaped or rectangular, for forming building-material blocks or building parts, whereby the element's 1 height b is greater than its width a. On the element's 1 vertical sides 3,4, profiled parts 5,7 have been formed which extend in the element's longitudinal direction and which, when placed against the profiled parts 7',5' on the vertical side 4' of another element 1', lock the element 1 firmly in a movement direction which is parallel to the element's 1 vertical side 3 and perpendicular to the element's 1 longitudinal direction. The profiled parts 5,7 are shaped in such a way that they do not form a locked connection in certain other directions perpendicular to the element's longitudinal direction, in which directions the element can be free and correspondingly can combine with each other.
