The invention relates to a process for working up the digestion residue of titanium dioxide production by the sulphate process, in which ilmenite and/or slag is decomposed with sulphuric acid and, after working-up of the decomposed mixture, a solid having titanium dioxide contents of 20 to 60%, relative to the solids content, is obtained as the residue.
