The purpose of the present invention is to provide: a dispersion stabilizer having exceptional polymerization stability when used in the polymerization of vinyl chloride resin, the dispersion stabilizer making it possible to obtain vinyl chloride resin having few coarse particles, few fish eyes after resin molding, excellent plasticizer absorptivity, and exceptional hue; and high-quality vinyl chloride resin produced using this dispersion stabilizer. The present invention is a dispersion stabilizer for suspension polymerization, the dispersion stabilizer being characterized by containing a polyvinyl alcohol polymer (B) having a double bond in a side chain, the polyvinyl alcohol polymer (B) being obtained by acetalating a polyvinyl alcohol polymer (A) using a monoaldehyde having an olefinic unsaturated double bond.
