Component mixt. has at least one of the components comprising a natural fibre which can be used as a foodstuff. The ingredients of the mixt. can be calorifically balanced, can be processed into thermosetting plastics or thermoplastics by baking, compression moulding, casting, injection moulding or extrusion to produce utility goods, commodities, packaging articles, containers and films. Thermoplastic processable component mixts. are also claimed consisting exclusively of components of animal origin. The compsns. may also contain essential minerals and trace elements; unobjectionable ballast substances, additives and fillers; aroma additives, flavourings, seasonings and colourants, etc. The natural fibre content is, e.g., recovered from sisal, sugar cane, cereal, coconut, cotton, linen, hemp, etc. USE/ADVANTAGE - The formulation of the compsns. can be varied so that useful prods. can be produced by conventional plastics processing techniques and which once their utilitarian function has been fulfilled are edible, useful as animal feed or feed supplements, are enzymatically and bacterially biodegradable or compostable so that they can be disposed of without causing environmental pollution. |
