A plaster having fiber reinforcement with at least some of the fibers including substantially hook shaped fibrils. The fibers are preferably of a plastics material, such as polypropylene, and they are dispersed throughout the plaster as individual fibers, fiber bundles or both. When used in plastering a substrate a plaster mix is formed from the plaster and a layer is applied to the substrate. While the layer is still in a substantially wet state a mesh is incorporated therein and a further layer of the plaster mix is then applied. The fibers interengage with each other with some engaging through and with the mesh thereby providing a plastering system exhibiting good resistance to shear and face loadings.
