In burning dried sewage sludge at a temp. at which a liq. ash is obtd., the combustion air is enriched with O2. Pref. the flue gas is used to produce steam, and the steam is used as heat-carrier for indirect drying of the sludge. NH3 is sepd. from the vapours from the drier, and added to the flue gas, cooled to 870-1100 deg.C, to give non-catalytic removal of N. ADVANTAGE - The process is self-sufficient in energy
