Data sorting arrangement for computer system - selects different groups of pairs of data moulding devices, exchanging contents of each pair of comparison indicates this is appropriate

The arrangement sorts received n data items into a defined order has n data holding devices (21-2n). A group of pairs of holding devices, each contg. two adjacent ones, is selected (4) and their data compared (31, 33...) and exchanged if required. A second group of similar pairs is selected from the remaining holding devices, their data compared (32, 34...) and exchanged if required. A sorting termination detector (5) monitors the comparision devices to determine when sorting is complete. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for use in computer systems for sorting large quantities of data into defined orders in reduced times.
