For the purpose of improving the hit ratio for sequential access in such a system as a disk cache system, flags are provided in the management table 5 of a cache memory 4, and are set to data blocks pre-read by pre-read means 34. When the data blocks having the flags set thereto are hit upon subsequent access with transfer means 31, access mode decision means 33 determines that sequential access is performed, and pre-read means 34 pre-reads data blocks after the hit blocks.
