Dyeing or natural or synthetic polyamide materials is effected by contacting the material with a dye bath at 40-90 deg.C and adding an acid at a constant temp. of 40-90 deg.C. The dye bath contains one or more dyes and a mixt. of an anionic or zwitterionic alkoxylated amine deriv. of formula (Ia) or (Ib) and a cationic alkoxylated amine deriv. of formula (II): R = 12-22C alkyl, 12-22C alkenyl or 12-22C cycloalkyl; R1 = 1-4C alkyl, (CH2CH2R2O)nH or (CH2CHR2O)nCH2CH2A(-)M(+); R2 = H and/or Me, provided that at least 80% of the alkylene oxide gps. are ethylene oxide; R3 = H, opt. substd. 1-4C alkyl or aralkyl; A is an anionic gp.; M is a cation; m and n = 1-40, provided that m+n = 5-70; R4 = H, opt. substd. alkyl or aralkyl, or (CH2CHR2O)yH; R5 = CH2R6O(CH2CHR2O)zH; R6 = CHR2 or arylene; X is an anion; x, y and z = 1-20 provided that x+y+z = 10-20.
