The metal part (10), especially for constructing furniture, has at least part of its surface coated with a plastics (11). At least part of the plastics coating is covered with an elastic layer (12) made of a cut-out piece of plastics fabric, a homogeneous plastics length, or a length of plastics-bound plastic, textile and/or natural fibre material. The plastics is joined to the plastics coating on the metal part by ultra-sonic, high-frequency, friction or thermal welding. The plastics of the coating (11) is identical to the plastics of the fabric or length of material. ADVANTAGE - Parts at least of the metal part used in furniture construction are elastic, stable and corrosion-resistance by being coated with plastics.
