The heating plate has an insulating base (6) on which the heating elements are laid e.g. thin film. The elements are protected by an insulating compound (3) applied over the elements and set. A metal heat conducting layer (2) completes the plate. The plate can be shaped, prior to setting the insulating compound, to fit the workpieces. The insulating compound can be improved by adding insulating fibres e.g. glass fibres, and has a thickness of 0.2mm to 0.4mm. Thermocouples (9) of low thermal mass can be embedded in the different layers to provide an improved temperature control. USE/ADVANTAGE - Simple construction to suit workpiece shape, can be coupled into larger heating area. Garment pressing e.g. garment fabrication.
