FUSION SPLICING MACHINE FOR OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE:To provide the fusion splicing machine for optical fibers which can stably fusion splice the optical fibers even when the surplus length of the optical fibers to be connected is short or when a working space is narrow and unstable. CONSTITUTION:An electric discharge unit 21 having clamps 23, 24 for holding optical fiber ends and discharge electrodes 25, 26 for heating the optical fiber ends is formed independently from a fusing machine body 11 and is constituted freely attachably and detachably to and from the fusing machine body 11. The discharge unit 21 is disconnected from the fusing machine body 11 and is carried to the connection point side of the optical fibers when the surplus length of the optical fibers to be connected is short or the working space is narrow. The optical fibers are thus stably connected even in the unstable and narrow space.
