PURPOSE:To provide the method for forming the quartz optical waveguide which can drastically reduce costs, i.e., can make simplification and drastic cost reduction even in terms of raw materials and production apparatus as well as production techniques. CONSTITUTION:Glass gel powder is formed by a sol-gel method and a coating layer is formed on a substrate by using such glass gel powder as a raw material. The formed glass gel coating layer is thereafter heat treated to form a porous glass thin film and is further heat treated to form transparent glass, by which the quartz optical waveguide is produced. |
