An adjustable ankle stabilization orthosis designed to fit varying anatomical sizes without the need for custom-fitting. The orthosis is designed to reinforce the ligaments which support the talus in its position relative to the critical bones with which it mates. It also provides stabilization of the tarsal region by providing flexibility in at least one direction while limiting or restricting movement in undesired directions. The orthosis (20) is comprised of an adjustable two-piece calf module (22), with adjustable latches, consisting of two side members, each having a rigid vertical member on the side, and two adjustable strip fasteners for properly fitting said calf module to the shank portion of the lower leg; a U-shaped ankle module (24) with two adjustable strip fasteners (36, 38), said fasteners being adjustable for positioning and securing said module to the foot, and rigid reinforcement areas rendering support to and partially conforming to the tarsal joint; and a joint (26) connecting said calf module and said ankle module comprising an elastomeric member that provides flexibility in at least one direction while at least partially restricting movement in undesired directions.
|
