A capacitor foil web produced in a gastight housing (1) which contains a web receiving and advancing system and an evapn. source (29) with one or more devices for delivering vapour source material (esp. metal) to the polymeric foil web (3) as it passes by. The three layers are vapour deposited onto the web (3), the first being a metal (pref. Al and/or Zn) layer, the second being an insulating (pref. SiO2) layer and the third being a further metal (pref. Al and/or Zn) layer. ADVANTAGE - Wound foil capacitors can be made in a simple manner using only a single support material. The web is inexpensively mfd. and the requirement for a double-sided metal coated foil or two one-side metal coated foils is obviated.
