Described is a method of applying a bright finish to sewing thread, the thread being made up in bulk form, in particular wound on a bobbin. A supercritical fluid containing the finish is subsequently allowed to flow through or over the bulk thread or bobbin for a given length of time. When the fluid has flowed through or over the bulk trhead or bobbin for the given length of time, the temperature is reduced, the pressure reduced and/or the volume increased.
