The method and the shaft furnace are used for foam glass production, which can be used as a building and insulation material. The prepared products have homogeneous structure and regular geometrical size. The process is characterised with high productivity and low consumption of thermal energy. According to the method, the glass mixture is fed continuously in the form of a pressed strip, which is heated, stabilised and tempered. The external size of the product is calibrated alongside stabilisation. The shaft furnace has a vertically oriented body (1) with a feed bin (2), mounted on the top. The feed bin has a piston feeder (3), that feeds the pressed strip of glass mixture inside the body (1) of the furnace, which is built from fireproof masonry (5). The furnace body (10) contains a cylindrical-conical opening (6). The cylindrical section is surrounded by cooling channels (7) and the conical part is surrounded by heating panels (8), whose front surface is covered by forming ribs (10). The calibration elements (11) are placed between the body (1) and the rollers (12), straining the foam glass strip.<IMAGE>
