PURPOSE: To improve the usefulness of DASD arrays by forming and solving syndromes consisting of at most two independent Boolean equations having two unknown numbers. CONSTITUTION: Arrays including first and second DASD parity groups are connected to an intelligent parity generation striping buffer(PSB) 7 through parallel busses 11, 13, 15, and 17, and processor arrays consisting of CPUs 1 and 3 are connected to a data control bus 9. In this case, a faulty DASD is independently discriminated, and a pair of syndromes obtained from blocks on the same data string on the other DASDs are formed and solved. This pair of syndromes consist of two independent Boolean equations having two unknown numbers. A matrix expression of preliminarily stored Boolean values for respective polynomial terms of a primitive in a finite arithmetic field is used to correct error blocks b(i) and b(j) from syndromes. |
