Laser welding appts. - with a tracing ring supported on rollers, for joining sheet metal components

The appts. has a continuous-action high power laser whose focussing head is movably installed and which by means of tracing device maintains a given distance between the focussing head and the weld seam. The tracing device consists of a rotatably mounted ring (14) oriented at an angle to the axis (2) of the laser beam.The outer rim of the ring rests on the components (4, 5) being jointed. Its inner rim is provided with a flange resting on several rollers (12, 12, ...). The ring is arranged so that the laser beam passes through its inner space. Pref. the tracing device is provided with three or four rollers. these rollers are located on a circle which is concentric with the ring (14). The distance between two rollers is greater than the diameter of the laser beam. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used for joining of sheet metal components. It allows a constant distance to be maintained between the laser focusing head and the weld seam.
