PROFILE MONITOR FOR PARTICLE ACCELERATOR

PURPOSE:To enable continuous observation of the position of a particle beam at every circulation in such a ring shape particle accelerator as scynchrotron. CONSTITUTION:In a vacuum duct 22 constituting a ring shape particle accelerator, a net screen 44 is arranged. An electron beam 33 circulating through the vacuum duct 22 partly impinges on the net screen 44 to radiate and the rest circulates again to impinge on the net screen 44 little by little. By this, the beam position at each circulation appears on the net screen 44 as radiation. A TV camera 50 catches the radiation on the screen 44 which is displayed on a TV monitor 54. An image processor means 52 detects the intensity of each radiation and identifies the number of circulation sequentially in descending order of intensity by comparing them.
