The wave winding is mfd. using a winding wire (22) fed from a winding nozzle (10) moved in a circular path relative to a stationary former (14), with a number of radially projecting vanes (34), between which inwards-directed elements (38) are located. The former has more than two vanes, and the wound wire displaced during the winding process from the circular path lies adjacent the radially inner parts of each vane by the inwards-directed elements. Pref. each inwards directed elements is displaced to deform the wound wire when the wire winding nozzle lies between this element and the following former vane is the direction of movement of the winding nozzle. ADVANTAGE - Simple mfr. of single-layer or double-layer winding with high accuracy.
