PURPOSE: To provide a method for managing a protocol stack which does not require the physical copy of a buffer in a multilayer communication protocol system. CONSTITUTION: Message data is received in the communication protocol stack of a source node. The respective buffers 20 are provided with envelope fields 24 and buffer header fields 22. All layer headers are added to the envelope field 24 by a source stack. The envelope field 24 is previously made into segments in size that can be transmitted between a source and the protocol stack of a destination. The linkage of a linked buffer is released, the layer headers are added to the respective new segments and message data is made into the segments in the arbitrary layer of the source node. The buffer whose linkage is released is received in the protocol stack of the destination node as a separated data unit and it is reassembled.
