PURPOSE:To provide an automatic focusing controller capable of keeping a moving body follow-up state even when a moving object is out of a range- finding zone and range-finding gets impossible. CONSTITUTION:This automatic focusing controller is provided with an optical system having a focusing lens group 53, a means for measuring the defocusing quantity of the specified object whose image is formed by the optical system, and a lens driving means 55 for driving the lens group 53 to a focusing position based on the measured result. Then, it is provided with an arithmetic means for calculating the moving speed of an object image based on the measuring interval and the measured result of the defocusing quantity measuring means; and a control means 35 for driving the lens group 53 in the case a difference between the defocusing quantity of this time and the defocusing quantity of previous time is under a specified quantity so that the focusing position of the optical system is moved at a follow-up speed in accordance with the moving speed of the object image, and driving the lens group 53 in the case the difference is equal to or above the specified quantity so that it may be moved at the moving speed of the object image of the previous time calculated by the arithmetic means. |
