PURPOSE:To provide a method for producing 5-aminolevulinic acid in high yield by culturing a microorganism capable of producing the 5-aminolevulinic acid in a culture medium containing a specific amount of a specified natural component added thereto according to a specific method. CONSTITUTION:A microorganism capable of producing 5-aminolevulinic acid deposited as FERM P-12542 and P-12543 is cultured in a culture medium prepared by adding 2-50g/l at least one selected from natural components of the group consisting of yeast extracts, dried yeasts, corn steep liquors, casamino acid, malt extracts and meat extracts at a time, continuously or intermittently thereto (1) after the microbial cell proliferation attains a metaphase of the logarithmic growth phase or thereafter or (2) adding 1-10g/l at least one selected therefrom at a time, continuously or intermittently thereto in starting the culturing and then 1-49g/l at least one selected therefrom at a time, continuously or intermittently thereto after the microbial cell proliferation attains the metaphase of the logarithmic growth phase or thereafter. |
