PURPOSE: To provide the photographic element to be processed in a medium to large-scale D&P bath. CONSTITUTION: This element contains one and only one dimensionally stable layer, including a coating substrate. A picture-forming layer contg. a radiation- sensitive silver halide, a diffusible dyestuff forming layer contg. a diffusible dyestuff forming compd. and a barrier layer covering the diffusible dyestuff forming layer are reactively combined and applied on the surface of the coating substrate. The substrate is selected from a reflective base material or a transparent base material. The diffusible dyestuff-forming layer is the same as or different from that of the picture-forming layer. The barrier layer contains a polymer, permeable to an element processing soln., when the element is in contact with the external processing bath. The barrier layer prevents the diffusible dyestuff formed from the diffusible dyestuff-forming compd. from being diffused away from the element.
