Coating varnish for paints, in particular for motor vehicle bodywork, which is characterised in that it contains, in a quantity not exceeding approximately 5 % by weight, at least one chemically inert, colourless particulate filler with a particle size smaller than approximately a few tens of mu m, whose refractive index does not differ by more than approximately 10 % from that of the varnish after curing and whose hardness, expressed as Moh, is at least equal to approximately 5-6. The most suitable fillers are solid or hollow glass ballotini.
