PURPOSE:To provide the method for simply connecting an optical waveguide and an optical fiber in a short time. CONSTITUTION:In entering/outgoing end faces of a quartz-based optical waveguide 10, cylindrical recessed parts 11, 12 whose inside diameter is a little larger than the outside diameter of input/output optical fibers 13, 14 are provided, and in this part, the input/output optical fibers 13, 14 are inserted and installed, and thereafter, the end parts of the input/output optical fibers 13, 14 are irradiated with a high power laser light to fuse and fix them. The recessed part is formed by cutting, ultrasonic working, various etching, etc. By this way, the working time is shortened, and also the coupling of an optical waveguide and an optical fiber can easily be made low in the coupling loss thereof. |
