Process for the powder coating of workpieces, in which a workpiece is first coated with powder, so that the powder adheres to the workpiece, and the powder is subsequently baked in a furnace, in which process, after coating and before baking, the powder adhering to the workpiece is irradiated with electromagnetic radiation within a specific limited surface region, so that, in this limited surface region, the powder gels and bonds to the workpiece, and the paint powder adhering to the workpiece outside the limited surface region is removed after the electromagnetic irradiation.
