PURPOSE:To suppress an increase of a cost and to position optical fibers with good accuracy by forming plural pieces of grooves narrower than the diameter of the optical fibers in a supporting member and bringing the optical fibers into line contact with the edges of the respective grooves, thereby supporting the optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:Plural pieces of the grooves 5 having the width W narrower than the diameter of the optical fibers 3 are formed on the surface of the supporting member 1. These grooves 5 are formed by mechanically cutting in the member by using, for example, a dicing saw. Since the width W of the grooves 5 worked by this working method is regulated by the thickness of the die, the formation of all the grooves to the uniform width W is possible. The spacings between the respective grooves 5, i.e., arranging pitches P, are assured by the accuracy of the moving stage of the dicing saw. The wear of the die in the groove bottom parts is significant and, therefore the depth and inside surface shape of the grooves 5 are liable to be nonuniform, but since the parallelism and width W of the edge parts are formed uniform, the edge parts EG come into line contact with the peripheral surfaces of the optical fibers 3 and the optical fibers 3 are arranged and held with the good accuracy. |
