(a) prepolymerizing 1 mol of a polytetramethylene ether glycol having 1000-3000 molecular wt. and 1.5-2.7 mol of a 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate, and adding a dimethyl acetamide to the prepolymer to obtain a prepolymer soln.; (b) chain-propagating the soln. with 0.7-0.95 mol of a 1,2-propylene diamine and a 1,3-cyclohexylene diamine; (c) chain-terminating the soln. with 0.1-0.4 mol of a monoethanol amine; and (d) adding 0.05-3 wt.% of a phosphorus cpd. as a light fastness improver and 0.1-2 wt.% of a cpd. of formula (I) [R1 = -CH2-CH2- or phenyl; R2 = C1-10 alkyl, aryl or alkylaryl; M1 = M2 = Na,Ca,Al,Zn,Ba or Pb as a chlorine-resistance improver to the polymer soln. The polymer is useful for an elastic fiber having a good chlorine resistance and light fastness.
