Method of increasing the receiving volume of a landfill site, which is completely or partly exhausted by tipping of landfill material and whose landfill body is arranged in a landfill pit, by means of compaction bores. To produce a compaction bore, at least one conveying worm mounted on a worm shaft and having an "upward-conveyance" direction of rotation is put into the landfill body from above down to the desired drilling depth. After reaching the desired drilling depth, the direction of rotation of the conveying worm is changed over to "downward conveyance" and the landfill material to be received by the conveying worm is pressed in below the conveying worm in a compacting manner in the landfill body, and so on, compaction bore by compaction bore. <IMAGE>
