In a filter element which can be inserted into a filter housing so as to seal and which is made of a filter web material arranged in a plate shape folded in a zigzag shape having a frame covering the longitudinal and transverse edges so as to seal, fabrication is to be simplified. The solution comprises plastic L-shaped frame parts being arranged along the two longitudinal edges of the folded filter web material, the longer arms of which frame parts laterally cover the end regions of the folded filter web material and the shorter arms thereof lying on these end regions and the frame parts being joined to the filter web material by welding, the same L-shaped frame parts being arranged on the transverse edges and being joined by welding to at least a last fold of the filter web material, and the longer arms being coated on both sides with foamed material adhesive on one side as sealing material.
