The invention relates to a process for removing urea from an aqueous suspension which can be applied in blood purification and in purification of water. The process proceeds in a complex manner as a combined process with accompanying use of a buffer substance. The process is based on forming urea inclusion (addition) compounds. In the clean up of wastewater in which urea must be removed, knitted fabrics are preferably used which contain the sodium salt of the higher fatty acid and are brought together with the aqueous urea solution and then brought to a pH below 7.
