MAGNETORESISTANCE CONVERTER AND MAGNETIC STORAGE SYSTEM

PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic reluctance(MR) converter utilizing a high holding power magnetic material for the purpose of generating a bias magnetic field for gaining a large signal output with a low current so as to be adaptable to a narrow track width. CONSTITUTION: Strips 34a, 34b of a high holding power magnetic material come adjacently into contact with the superimposed end of a track at both ends of an MR layer 22. Each strip is provided with a horizontal component twice as thick as the horizontal component of magnetization; it is at least equal to the thickness doubling that of the horizontal component of the magnetization of the MR layer before the layer is biased by these strips. Each strip is inclined in the magnetizing direction by an angleϕfrom the horizontal component. The MR layer is positioned asymmetrically between magnetic shields 30, 32, and separated from a shunt layer 23 by an electrically conductive nonmagnetic spacer layer 21.
