摘要 PURPOSE:To extremely lessen the generation of orientation defects and to greatly improve the optical characteristics of a contrast ratio by uniaxially orienting liquid crystal materials according to uniaxial orienting means and allowing the liquid crystal materials to exist within closed spaces formed by a resin material. CONSTITUTION:A mixture composed of the liquid crystal materials and an uncured resin added with a reaction initiator is clamped between one set of light transmissive substrates 101, 102, of which the inter-substrate spacing is determined by spacers 108, and which have electrodes 103, 104. The liquid crystal materials 107 are uniaxially oriented according to the orienting means 105 and the liquid crystal materials 107 exist in the closed spaces formed by the cured resin material 106. The liquid crystal materials do not come into contact with the uniaxially oriented surfaces of the substrates. In addition, the inter- substrate spacing is adhered and fixed by the cured resin material. The liquid crystal materials 107 are arranged according to the orienting means 105 in such a manner and thereafter, the resin is cured and, therefore, the good orienting state prior to the curing is maintained. The influence that the resin after the curing exerts on the orientation is extremely little.
