A management system for piston internal combustion engines, especially spark ignition engines of motor vehicles, for the adjustment of important control variables, principally advance angle, duration of injection and throttle position, as a function of the respective load point, is characterised in that the cylinder internal pressure, to be measured during the compression phase in a plurality of discreet angular positions of the crankshaft, serves for determining the respective load point and hence the load variables. A load variable determined in this way makes it unnecessary to resort to the not very suitable measured variables, inlet manifold pressure or air mass flow/speed, hitherto used. The essential advantage resides in the fact that the cylinder internal pressure is very closely proportional to the respective load point and permits engine control of individual cylinders. <IMAGE>
