The invention relates to transglycosylase inhibitors whose chemical structure is related to that of the moenomycin antibiotics, to the preparation thereof by chemical synthesis and to the use thereof as pharmaceuticals. The transglycosylase inhibitors have the compound of the formula <IMAGE> in which R<1> to R<4> = hydrogen, R<5> = -OH, -OR<6> or <IMAGE> , R<6> = hydrogen, alkyl or aryl and R<7> and R<8> are, independently of one another, hydrogen or alkyl.
