PURPOSE: To provide an antifoaming composition free from being washed away into blood, as well as soluble in alcohol or non-halogenated hydrocarbon solvent, by applying the constitution that a non-toxic and biocompatible defoaming surfactant adhering permanently to the blood contact surface of a hydrophobic material contains a specific substance. CONSTITUTION: Regarding a medical instrument with a blood contact surface of hydrophobic material, this hydrophobic material is made to contain a non- toxic and biocompatible defoaming surfactant permanently adhering to the blood contact surface. The agent is an alkoxylated primary alcohol, or preferably a block copolymer of propylene oxide and ethylene oxide. In addition, the agent has a blood foam filter bypass grade equal to 2 or less as per the blood defoaming screen test. Also, the medical instrument is formed out of blood membrane oxygen application devices 12 and 13 including a defoaming unit.
