Method for controlling a digital copier and digital copier for a two-side document-copying mode

In a digital copier which can be operated using a two-side document-copying mode, when an automatic document feed unit (ADF) is used, a second side of this document is read when the two-side document-copying mode is selected and the resulting image data are written into a storage device which can accommodate image data which represent two documents. A first side of the document is then read and stored while, at the same time, the image data which represent the second side, are read out and printed by means of a printer. Then, image data which represent the first side are read out and printed. In consequence, the document can be replaced before the previous side has been copied completely. As a result, an additional time period which is otherwise used for replacing documents is no longer needed. The overall time in which a copier is occupied can thereby be reduced as a result, this giving rise to an efficient operation of the copier. One of two different types of interruption devices is furthermore freely selectable, so that scanner and printer can be used independently of each other based on the interruption mode.
