PURPOSE:To accurately position an optical fiber in the case of mechanical connection by moving the optical fiber on a moving side along the optical fiber on a fixed side so that it is connected with the desired optical fiber on the fixed side by a driving source. CONSTITUTION:This optical switch is provided with a movable head 5 on which at least one optical fiber 4 on the moving side is mounted, the driving source 7 moving the movable head 5, and a magnet column 9 having an alternating magnetic pole placed along the moving path of the movable head 5. This optical switch is provided with a magnetic sensor 8 on the movable head detecting the magnetism of the magnetic column 9 and an arithmetic controller which calculates the positional information of the movable head 5 from the alternating magnetic pole of the magnetic column 9 detected by the magnetic sensor 8 and which controls the driving of the driving source 7 based on the positional information. The optical fiber 4 on the moving side on the movable head 5 is moved along the optical fiber 3 on the fixed side by the driving source 7, so that the optical fiber 4 on the moving side can be connected with the desired optical fiber 3 on the fixed side. Consequently, the optical fiber can stably and accurately be connected. |
