<p>The present invention provides an electromechanical resistance device for exercise equipment. Exercise movement drives a motor (110) that dissipates at least twenty percent of the power generated by exercise movement and that powers an electronic circuit which in turn dissipates the remainder of the exercise generated power. The effective inertia and drag resistance of the resistance device are user programmable. The present invention also provides a method of providing resistance to exercise movement using a relatively inefficient motor (110) to dissipate approximately 50 % of the power generated by exercise movement.</p> |
