<p>A method of making a filter assembly consists of seating a filter pack (20) in opposing end caps (10, 11) and applying a mixt. (25) to said filter pack (20) and end caps (10, 11). Said mixt. comprises a binder containing a low temperature component, e.g., a nickel based alloy, and a high temperature component comprises a metal particulate, e.g., stainless steel, or ceramic material, e.g., silicon carbide. After application, the mixt. is degassed under vacuum to eliminate air bubbles, and agitated, e.g., by vibration, to ensure penetration into the filter pack. The end caps (10, 11) and filter pack (20) are then permanently bonded by firing in a furnace, wherein the binder is driven off and the low melt component fills the interstices between the high temp. particles, and also fills the pores in the filter pack and flows along the end caps.</p> |
