A card printer (1) comprises a print head (5), a supporting table (7) which can be moved back and forth on a path (6) relative to the print head (5), a drive mechanism (8) which moves the supporting table (7) back and forth, a card-conveying mechanism (4) which supplies a plurality of cards (K) individually one after the other to the supporting table (7), and a positioning device which positions the individual cards (K) in a suitable manner on the supporting table (7). The positioning device contains a pair of stop pins (27) which can project from the supporting table in a retractable manner in order to stop the leading edge of each card, and a cam mechanism (31) which causes the stop pins to project from the supporting table when the latter assumes its position of readiness in which it receives a card. <IMAGE>
