An initial thinning-out method and a chipper are used for forest clearance work. The tree is worked from top to root without being felled. The chipper 1 has a disc 12 with cutter 13 arranged such that a feeding cone 18 opens downwards. The chipper 1 is suspended from the tip of a forestry machine boom and is driven by a drive unit 5. For lopping off branches, the chipper 1 is provided with a cutter 33 and with a spiral 32. The chip container 21 is emptied by changing the direction of the hydraulic flow in the hoses 30. <IMAGE> |
