PURPOSE:To realize the data compressor capable of efficiently compressing data without need of re-transmission of data from a data source without use of buffer memory of a large capacity. CONSTITUTION:Data outputted from a host computer 11 and stored in a storage device 13 are fed without compression to a storage device interface section 19 in the unit of blocks and also fed while being compressed in a compression processing section 17. A control section 16 monitors the result of count by a count section 18 and when the volume of compressed data is larger than that of non-compressed data over plural consecutive blocks, the control section 16 instructs it to store the non-compression data in the storage device 13. When not larger, the control section 16 instructs the storage device 13 for switching to the inverse. Furthermore, the control section 16 stores accumulated data and commands the storage device 13 when the accumulated compression data is larger than that of the non-compression data. |
