A block-forming machine with spiral discs comprises a circular saw blade with a larger outer diameter than the diameter of a circular path which inner chipping means (8) describe during rotation, so that they may presaw a plane cut in a passing log. All teeth (13) on the blade (12) are substantially equidistant. The innermost chipping means in each spiral path (A, B, C) on the disc (1) has a fibre-cutting edge partly put between two adjacent teeth (13) on the blade (12) and overbridging the gap between the tooth rim and the plane in which the second innermost chipping means of the spiral path rotates. The innermost chipping means is separated from the second innermost chipping means by a distance which is considerably larger than, for instance twice as large as the distance between the other, equidistant chipping means in each spiral path, an opening (33) being cut out in the disc in the area between said chipping means, through which opening chips may pass from the outside to the inside of the disc without getting stuck in the wedge-like tapering space in front of the innermost chipping means which is delimited by the conical end portion of the disc and the blade protruding from said portion. <IMAGE> |
